Avery's Endocrinology App.

We had Avery's 2nd endocrinology appointment in the last month this afternoon. I probably mentioned before that the post-app. letter we received from her previous doctor didn't coincide with the actual appointment which was worrisome to us. After that, we were advised to change to another doctor. Of course, upon entering the building, Avery began to cry. I ended up taking her back to the car to wait on them to call us back. I tend to get anxious because she throws such a fit when no one is even touching her at appointments. Jake and I both stress over it, but both of us are better than one of us- that's for sure. Going alone is really not fun! Any way, she continued to cry through getting weighed and measured, and continued on in the room even with no one else in there. She FINALLY tuckered out and fell asleep as you can see in the picture (don't you love that she had her little purse on her arm?)! Amazingly, she woke up a different child- I seriously wanted to pinch myself! She slept for may be 20 minutes-if you've never been to UMC, you may not understand the waiting, lol! She got up, and then began to play and walk around the room. Then, the doctor and resident walked in, and she continued on as if it was no big deal!! No running and clenching me while screaming- just normal, sweet Avery. We were able to discuss the growth hormones, and get all of our questions answered- it was such a relief!! We really like her new doctor, who was very patient and informative. She adjusted the dosage of GH that our previous doctor had called for, and had us schedule an x-ray of Avery's hand. The x-ray is normal before beginning the therapy from what she told us. We will go on and begin the therapy in July- daily shots for the next 14 years. Avery will be monitored every 3 months, and will get bloodwork to ensure her thyroid and blood sugar remain normal. I feel much better after getting everything worked out today. I realize that these physicians see lots and lots of patients, so it was refreshing to have our new doctor take the time she did with us today (as our cardilogist and pediatrician always do). We did find out that Avery hasn't reached 20pounds after all! She is about 19.5 (may be 20). It was hard to know if the scale was accurate because Avery wouldn't really stand out in the middle of her fit. The last tech told us 22, but then wrote 19 something on her chart, so we were confused about that. Now, we will just wait on Phizer Bridge and MedFusion pharmacy to get us started. They will actually mail the shots, and should send someone to our house to instruct us on getting started. I'm weird about shots, but hopefully, I'll get the hang of it quickly without freaking out!!
We will have Avery's x-ray and check-up with her opthalmologist tomorrow morning at Batson.
