It's a Pirate's Life for Us...Back to School 2018

How in the world do we have a Kindergartener AND a THIRD GRADER??!!
School is in full swing with Bryce at Pearl Lower and Avery at Northside. It was a struggle getting back into our routine, especially with extra-curricular activities interfering with our normal bedtime (and Avery's "TV" time), but we have gotten much better (aside from Avery's continual fits about going to sleep)! The kids have enjoyed lots of fun days at school, and they are both working really hard for their teachers. Bryce is truly blooming and absorbing everything they put in front of him in Kindergarten. He is super proud of himself! He is playing Upward flag football this year, and Jake is helping as an assistant coach. Avery is taking dance again at Studio Sole, and she chose a Hip Hop class and a Jazz/Tap class with Ms. Carly. Milly and I are enjoying our days together. She is nearly two and so full of life AND ENERGY! The fall season is always a very busy one, but in that, we have lots of fun moments together.

Meet the Teacher 2018

Bryce is excited to have the same Kindergarten teacher that Avery had, my friend, Mrs. McCarty! Mrs. Katz is her new assistant this year.

Avery is beginning her last year at PNE in Ms. Welch's homeroom! She switches classes this year, so she will also have Ms. Moore for Math and Science. She also sees Mrs. Bryant and Ms. Cannon for special services.

The Night Before Kindergarten...

First Day of School 2018...

The first Pirate Pride Blue and Gold Friday of the new school year...

Lunch Visits and Cuddle Time...

Bryce is reading...

We got our flu shots!

Dance and Football...

And now everyone is SICK!

Bryce got mono and another virus on top of it. He was super sick and had a very difficult time breathing. He ended up getting a steroid shot, and that really helped him. He missed A WEEK OF SCHOOL.

Milly ran fever at the same time, and had the crud. She also got a stomach bug when we thought everyone was better. I'm throwing in some other cute pics from our time at home together...

The girl loves to eat...

She also loves "care-cos" and "punkins"...

The dude sleeps well after a long day at school!

Back to School Night 2018 at PLE....

Bryce was excited to show off his work and let me see his classroom!

Avery ended up in the ER running a very high fever. She ran fever and felt bad when Bryce had mono, but she tested negative for it. She ended up having some sort of virus, and she was cleared the same day as Bryce to go back to school. Two days later, I picked her up from school, and she looked terrible. By the time I got her home, she was running 105 and threw up tons of mucus! Jake was out of town, but my sweet friend, Katie, came over to watch Bryce and MJ until my mom could get here. After a chest x-ray (all clear) and a urinalysis (looked fine), we waited until the fever was under control and went home. She took antibiotics, but the doctors still felt like it was a yucky virus. All I can say is, WHAT A WEEK!

Enchanted Evening with Friend's of Children's Hospital 2018...

I have so much fun when Katie and I volunteer for this event each year. The decorations were stunning once again this time, and we really enjoyed the food and cocktails after we were finished with our duties!

Avery had a fun water day incentive at school!

I had a good time with friends from the F.A.S.T. group at Babalu! I joined the team in late spring, and I am so thankful to be a part of a wonderful group of people with big hearts for Batson! We've got some great things in the works!

We checked out the Apothecary at Brent's Drugs afterwards and got carded. It was a cool place.

Daddy got a bad kidney stone and ended up in the ER. It seemed to last forever, but he finally passed it! MJ tried to make him feel better....

Once everyone got better, and we had a little real fall weather, we made some caramel apples...

Avery Update....
Thankfully, we began seeing a new complex care pediatrician, and we're on the road to getting help with some things that have been put on the back burner. Avery is now taking medicine at night to help her sleep, and while she may still wake up some in the night, she goes back to sleep rather than getting up and crying. We've also met with the CAY Center to discuss some other issues with behavior and anxiety, and Avery was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. The doctors feel the other issues she's having stem from anxiety, so we will begin seeing a therapist soon to work on that. She will also have some IQ and achievement evaluations, and we will then do a comprehensive evaluation with the school district afterwards. 3rd grade has been somewhat of a struggle. The pressure of testing is tough this year, and Avery is having a hard time adjusting. I see it stealing some of her joy feeling like even her best isn't enough, and it hurts my heart. In the big scheme of things, she is really doing well. She may not have A's (or even many B's), but the work she is doing is not easy. She still gets through it, and her standardized testing looks good right now. My word for this year is perspective, and I am trying to focus on that while encouraging her to keep her head up!
Since getting a vaccination a couple of months ago due to low counts, Avery's immunity is holding strong. She has been getting good rest and staying well, so I am thrilled about that! We have a cardiology appointment coming up in January which is always a bit stressful; however, Avery is doing really well from what we can see!
